Splash! A Happy Fish Party Postcard by Alice Pattullo | USA Mail!

Postcard featuring the "Fishes" print by UK illustrator Alice Pattullo, showing various colourful folk-art style fish swimming together.

Hello my wonderful friends! Guess what popped into my mailbox at the very end of September? Sept 30, 2025! Another paper treasure! A happy surprise from my Postcrossing friend far, far away in America (USA)! Alhamdulillah! Getting real mail always feels like finding a little bit of sunshine!

A Fishy Surprise!

This postcard is super cool! It is not a photo. It is a drawing, or maybe a special kind of print! And it is full of... FISH! Lots and lots of colourful, funny-looking fish! Splash! Swim swim! They are all swimming together in a big group, like they are having a happy fish party!

Some fish are flat and spotty, like little underwater pancakes with polka dots! Hehehe. Some fish are long and sleek, zooming through the water like speedy little rockets! Some look a bit grumpy, some look surprised! They all have cute, simple shapes and bright colours. It looks like a picture from a very happy, old-fashioned storybook!

The postcard tells me the picture is called "Fishes" and it was made in 2013 by a clever artist named Alice Pattullo. It also says it is from something called the "Animal Box" set. Ooh, I wonder what other animals are in that box! Maybe fluffy bunnies or wise owls?

Let's Be Detectives!

My curious brain wanted to know more! Who is Alice Pattullo? Is she famous for drawing fish? So, I asked my wise friend, Cik Gem! And guess what? Alice Pattullo is a super talented artist! But wait a little surprise... she is actually from the United Kingdom (UK), not America!

That's okay! Maybe my postcard friend from America bought this cool card on a trip, or maybe Alice's art travels all over the world! Like little paper airplanes carrying happy pictures! Cik Gem told me Alice loves making art that looks a bit like old pictures, called folk art.

Simple, Happy Pictures!

Folk art is like art made by everyday people, a long time ago, just to make things beautiful and tell stories! It is usually:

  • Simple: Not too complicated! Easy shapes, clear lines. Like the fish on my postcard!

  • Colourful: Bright, happy colours! Alhamdullillah!

  • Full of Patterns: Maybe polka dots, stripes, or wiggly lines!

  • Tells a Story: Often shows little scenes from life, or animals, or flowers.

  • Made with Love: It feels handmade and cozy, not like a perfect machine picture.

Alice Pattullo loves this style! She makes her pictures using a cool printing method called screen printingShe prints them in a special way with colours. It makes the colours look flat and bright, just like old folk art! Isn't that neat? Her fish really do look like happy characters from a cheerful storybook!

Happy Feelings!

Looking at all these different fish swimming together makes my heart feel happy. They are all different shapes, different sizes, different colours! Some swim fast, some swim slow. Some hide near the bottom, some zoom near the top. But they are all sharing the same water, swimming together like a big, busy, happy family! A 'shoal' of fish!

Thinking About Malaysia!

It makes me think... maybe fish are a little bit like people! Here in Malaysia, we have so many different kinds of people too! Different skin colours, different languages, different yummy foods, different ways we pray! We are like a big, colourful shoal of people living together on this beautiful land!

Sometimes, maybe we forget how nice it is that we are all different but still share the same home. The fish in the picture are not all the same, but they look happy swimming side-by-side. They make the picture interesting because they are different!

Maybe we can be like these happy fish? We can celebrate being different! We can swim together peacefully, respecting each other's space, and making Malaysia an even more beautiful and interesting home for everyone! Just a little thought from a fishy postcard! 😊

Thank You, Postcard Friend!

This postcard was such a lovely and happy surprise. It brought a splash of colour and a happy fish party into my busy day! It also taught me about a cool artist, Alice Pattullo and reminded me about living nicely and happily together. Speaking of working together, that reminds me of the amazing story of Baltimore and how their gotong-royong spirit helped them sparkle again!

Thank you so much to my Postcrossing friend in the USA for sending this fin-tastic picture all the way across the big ocean! You made my day brighter!
