Pattaya Bike Week Dream! Fly, Drive, or Ride? Planning the Adventure
The Good Part: Super FAST! Zoom! An Air Asia flight only takes about 2 hours! Like watching one long cartoon movie. You arrive, and you are not even tired! Yay! Quick and easy!
The Not-So-Good Part: Airplanes can be tricky! You have to go to the airport super early. Wait wait wait. And sometimes, the plane takes a long nap and is late! (Uh oh, Air Asia!). If the Bike Week party starts at a special time, being late is very scary! Plus, plane seats can be squishy. Not much room to wiggle. And the air inside sometimes feels dry or smells funny. For just 2 hours, maybe it is okay?
Option 2: Driving in a Cozy Car (Road Trip!)
The Good Part: You are the boss of your car! You can stop anywhere you like! See a pretty view? Stop! Feeling hungry? Stop! You have freedom to explore along the way. Maybe?
The Not-So-Good Part: Oh dear. Driving from my home in Malaysia all the way to Pattaya is very, very, VERY far! It will take a long, long time. And it costs a lot of money for gasoline and tolls (like little road taxes). More expensive than flying! Also... I remember my road trip to Krabi back in 2013. I planned so many fun things to see and do! But driving took so much time, and sometimes we got lost, that we missed many things! Poof! Time just disappeared. A road trip needs lots and lots of planning, maybe for many months! If not, you just get tired and maybe a little bit grumpy. Was it worth it? Hmm...
Option 3: Riding My Own Monster Bike! (VROOM VROOM Adventure!)
The Good Part: YAY! This sounds like the MOST fun! Total freedom! Just me, my bike, the wind, and the open road! I can go anywhere, stop anywhere, feel everything! No squishy seats, no traffic jams (mostly!). Pure adventure! My heart says YES YES YES!
The Not-So-Good Part: Oh. My. Goodness. It is SO FAR! Like, super mega ultra far! Maybe 1649 kilometers? That is like riding for 20 hours... without stopping! WHOA! Can Kak Mawar do that? Am I strong enough? Is my body tough enough ('kental')? Riding that far needs a super strong spirit and a very strong bottom! Hehehe. I need to think about this very, very carefully. Am I brave enough for that much riding?
But Why Pattaya Anyway? Is It Really That Nice?
While I was flying back from another trip recently, I read a story about Pattaya in the Air Asia magazine (called 3Sixty!). It made Pattaya sound like a lovely place! Friends who have been there say it is a great city to relax and have fun. Even good for families with kids!
It is right next to the sea, the Gulf of Siam. Imagine! Beautiful curving beaches, soft white sand, and calm blue water sparkling in the sun. Ahhh... doesn't that sound peaceful? Like a happy sigh for your eyes!
The magazine story also told me some history! A long, long time ago (in the 1950s), Pattaya was just a quiet little fishing village. Shhh, sleepy. But then, maybe about 60 years ago during the Vietnam War, American soldiers came here to rest and have fun. Pop! Suddenly, Pattaya woke up! It became famous for its exciting nightlife (parties after dark!).
Later, they built fun water parks, places for exciting sports, and yummy restaurants with lots of fresh seafood! Nom nom! Now, it is a super popular place that tourists from all over the world love to visit! It is only about 150km from the big city of Bangkok. Easy peasy! There are even beautiful little islands nearby (like Ko Lan!) that you can visit with a boat. Wow!
(Hmm... I wonder... If I go there and ask for "Nasi Goreng Pattaya"... will they know what it is? Hehehe!)
So Many Fun Things To Do! (Must See/Do List!)
The magazine listed lots of cool places! Like:
A Cartoon Network water park! Wow! For kids and grown-ups! Splash splash!
Something called Flight of the Gibbon. Like being Tarzan, flying through the trees! Whee! (Maybe a bit scary high up?)
A market by the sea (Lanpho Naklua) with super fresh seafood you can BBQ right there! Yummy!
A giant, beautiful garden called Nong Nooch with amazing plant sculptures.
A magical-looking wooden temple called The Sanctuary of Truth, built without any nails! Amazing! (Still not finished after 30 years!)
Pretty islands like Ko Lan for swimming and sunshine.
A temple with cool statues (Viharnra Sien).
And a famous Floating Market where people sell things from boats! So cool!
Wow! If I could see all these places, my trip would be super complete!

So... Which Way Should I Go? Fly, Drive, or Ride?
The big question is still waiting! Flying is fast, but maybe boring and has waiting drama. Driving gives some freedom, but is slow, expensive, and needs mega planning. Riding is total freedom and adventure... but SOOOO long and tiring!
My heart whispers... "Ride! Ride! Be brave!" It says, if little motorbikes ('kapcai') can make it there, surely my big monster bike can too, right? But my brain whispers back... "Whoa there, Mawar! 20 hours is a really long time! Are you sure?"
Aish! I need to think more! Maybe the trip is not JUST about the Bike Week party. Maybe it is also about seeing the real Pattaya, the culture, the people, the places the magazine showed me. Which way gives me the best chance for that kind of adventure?
Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to have "time and money freedom"? To just go, explore, and not worry too much? That is the dream! One day, maybe!
What do you think, my friends? If it was YOUR trip, would you choose the fast plane, the exploring car, or the super adventurous bike ride? Let me know!
